We Made a Commercial for a Camera That Does Not Exist

We made a product film with no studio, no crew and no product, as a test of what one costs now. The expensive half got cheap. The half nobody could ever buy did not.

Last month we made a commercial for a camera that does not exist. You scroll, and it comes apart in front of you. The lens leaves first, then the sensor, the boards, every last screw. Nobody built that camera. Nobody photographed it. No studio, no crew, no product in a box waiting on a courier. It was not for a client. We ran it as a test, to see what one actually costs now.

Two pictures and a guess between them

You make one picture of the camera assembled. One of it fully apart. Then you ask a machine to travel between the two, and it invents everything in the middle. That is the whole trick. No 3D model, no animation software, no camera. The page is 149 still pictures, painted one after another as you scroll. There is no video file on it at all. Once you see how it is done, the mystique goes. It was never the valuable part.

The expensive half stopped being expensive

The reason a small business never had a product film was the production line. The studio day, the kit, the editor. Four figures gone before anyone had an idea. That wall has fallen over. What is left standing is the part nobody could ever buy.

The expensive part was never the pixels. It is knowing which sixty seconds of engineering to show.

What it still cannot do

It cannot match a product that exists. Ours is a camera nobody built, so nothing could be wrong. The moment it has to be your product, with your logo in the right place, you are asking a machine to be accurate rather than plausible. It is only good at plausible. So stop pricing the shoot. Start pricing the decision.

Your one job this week

Name the one mechanism inside what you sell that would change somebody’s mind if they could see it. Not the product. One moving part. One before and after. One thing that happens inside the box. Write that sentence down. Nobody can make it for you.

The week in brief

  • From today, Google Ads spends up to your target, not under it. If a campaign is limited by budget and beating its target cost per sale, that stops today. Check your targets.
  • Google can now quietly limit who sees your ads. Unverified accounts get fewer impressions across Search, YouTube, Gmail and Discover. Nothing is disapproved, so you would never notice. Finish verification.
  • Language targeting leaves Search campaigns in September. Google will match on the language of your ads instead. No action needed, but read them.
  • A Google Search Profile now needs 35,000 followers, not 100,000. With a real audience on YouTube, Instagram or X, you can own what people see when they search you.
